This is particularly true within the music industry and creator tools sector.
We understand that music artists and producers often feel confused and wary of the technology in front of them, and the companies building it. Actions by certain bad actors within our industry - companies that have used artists' music to train AI models without permission - mean that musicians need to be able to trust the products they are using.
This page is our commitment to that trust. Here is exactly how RoEx uses AI, what happens to your music when you upload it, and what we will never do.
RoEx was created with the belief that better sound should be available for all artists.
We believe that AI-powered tools should support the existing creative process for music creation, rather than replace it completely. Helping you improve is central to everything we build - with educational features representing core elements within our tools. We want artists to develop their production skills, not become dependent on a black box. That means keeping full focus on the creative input for the work.
Our tools - Automix and Mix Check Studio - are assistive AI tools. They handle the technical work so you can focus on the creative work. They do not generate music, they do not compose, and they do not make creative decisions on your behalf.
When using RoEx products, your music will always remain yours.
We do not train our AI models using any audio that is uploaded to any of our products or tools. Our AI models are trained in-house, by engineers at RoEx.
There are no generative AI tools within any RoEx product.
To be explicit about what this means in practice:
Your stems, mixes and masters are never used to train or improve our models
Your audio is never shared with third parties for any purpose
You retain full ownership and rights to everything you upload and everything you download
We are proud to be a signatory to the AI For Music initiative - a set of principles developed by Roland and Universal Music Group for responsible AI use in music.
We are also a formal endorser of the Principles for Music Creation with AI, which establish a framework for protecting human creativity and promoting ethical AI development across the music industry.
We publish this statement publicly and will update it if our approach changes. We will never change our core commitment to not training on user audio.
Running AI models at scale uses energy, and we take that seriously.
RoEx's AI models are purpose-built for specific audio processing tasks, unlike large language models, which require significantly more energy to run. But we are not going to pretend that our models have no environmental footprint - they do.
To counter this we choose data centre providers with strong environmental commitments wherever we can, and contribute to climate action through Stripe Climate - where a percentage of our revenue goes directly to carbon removal projects.
